Our verdict

The kick-start CG 125 costs Rs 238,500 and the CG 125S Rs 286,900 (Gold Rs 296,900). The 125S gets self-start with kick back-up and a 5-speed gearbox; it weighs 108 kg against 100 kg. Both keep drum brakes front and rear and the same 9.2-litre tank.

The fifth gear lowers revs on the highway, and self-start helps in stop-go traffic or for older riders. In the city alone, the difference is small. The kick model has the bigger used market.

Choose the kick-start CG 125 for value. Pay for the 125S if you ride long distances or start the bike many times a day.

Specs side by side

A value is marked only where better is clear-cut — a lower price, more cc, a bigger tank, more claimed km/l, more ground clearance, a higher rating, disc over drum, self start over kick — and only when the gap is big enough for a rider to notice. Differences too small to feel, like a cc or two or a tenth of a rating point, are left unmarked. “—” means the figure is not published.
