Last updated: 20 October 2026

Quick answer: As of 8 October 2026, a balaclava in Pakistan costs about Rs 220–500 for a thin lycra or polyester mask on Daraz, Rs 500–650 for cotton (summer) or fleece (winter) from a local gear store, and Rs 1,200–2,550 for a branded LS2 tube or balaclava. For most riders a Rs 500–600 cotton or lycra balaclava is enough.

Worn under the helmet, it keeps sweat and smog off the helmet lining, your hair flat, and your face out of the sun.

All prices in this guide are approximate, checked on 8 October 2026 from the sellers linked below, and can change with stock, imports and the dollar rate. Bike Markaz now sells a black full face balaclava at Rs 400; see the stock note near the end.

Key takeaways

  • Budget: Rs 220–500 (thin lycra/polyester, Daraz). Sweet spot: Rs 500–650 (cotton for summer, fleece for winter). Branded: Rs 1,200–2,550 (LS2).
  • A balaclava under helmet is mainly a hygiene layer: it soaks up sweat so the helmet padding stays clean and does not smell.
  • Summer: thin cotton or lycra. Winter and fog: fleece. A thick crown makes the helmet press on your forehead.
  • Punjab made face masks compulsory for motorcyclists during the 2025 smog season; a balaclava counts as a face covering but is not a filter mask.
  • Wash it every 2–3 rides in summer. It costs less than cleaning a helmet liner.

What Is a Balaclava, and Why Do Bike Riders Wear One?

"What is balaclava?" is the first thing many riders ask when a shopkeeper suggests one. It is a close-fitting cloth hood that covers the whole head and neck and leaves only the eyes, or the eyes and nose, open. The name comes from the Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War (1854), when knitted hoods were sent to British soldiers to survive the winter; the word "balaclava" for the garment itself appeared a few decades later (Wikipedia). Today a motorcycle balaclava is a thin stretch hood made of cotton, lycra, polyester or fleece, cut to go under a helmet.

Riders in Pakistan wear one for five reasons, and the first is not the one most people expect:

  1. Hygiene and sweat. Your helmet lining soaks up sweat, hair oil and dust every day; after one Karachi summer it smells and the padding goes hard. Budget helmets rarely have removable liners, so a balaclava that takes the sweat and goes in the wash is the only easy way to keep a Rs 5,000–11,000 helmet clean inside.
  2. Dust and smog. From late October to February, Lahore and much of Punjab sit under smog; in early November 2025 Lahore recorded an AQI of around 400 and topped the world pollution rankings (Arab News). A balaclava over the nose and mouth keeps coarse dust and grit out of your face. It is not a filter for fine PM2.5 (see the smog section below).
  3. Sun. On a 40°C June afternoon in Multan or Sukkur, an open face helmet leaves your cheeks, nose and neck in direct sun for an hour each way.
  4. Winter cold and fog. In Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta and the north, December mornings hurt the ears and jaw. A fleece balaclava under helmet cuts the wind chill.
  5. Hair and helmet fit. It stops "helmet hair", keeps long hair or a beard out of the straps, and lets a snug helmet slide on without pulling.

If you ride every day, the hygiene point alone is worth Rs 500. Think of it as a sock for your helmet.

Balaclava Price in Pakistan by Material (Cotton, Lycra, Fleece, Coolmax)

Here is the balaclava price in Pakistan as we found it on 8 October 2026, grouped by material. The material matters more than the brand: it decides whether the mask is for summer or winter, how it feels under a helmet, and how long it lasts.

Material Price range (approx.) Season What you get Example seen (8 Oct 2026)
Thin lycra / polyester ("ninja mask") Rs 220 – 500 Summer, spring, autumn Very light, stretchy, dries fast; thin fabric, seams vary Unbranded full face ninja mask, Rs 220 (was Rs 550), Daraz
Cotton (100% or cotton-lycra) Rs 500 – 600 Summer, year-round in Karachi Soft, breathable, absorbs sweat; slower to dry Dominance cotton summer balaclava Rs 499; FancyBikes 100% cotton balaclava Rs 600
Fleece / thermal polyester Rs 500 – 650 Winter (Nov–Feb) Warm, windproof front; too hot above about 20°C Roadies Store fleece balaclava Rs 650; Probikers winter mask Rs 499 (was Rs 700), Daraz
Branded tube / buff (stretch polyester) Rs 1,200 – 1,500 All year Multi-use tube: neck warmer, face mask or hood; moisture-wicking LS2 Motley Tube Rs 1,200 (was Rs 1,500), LS2 Helmets Pakistan
Branded balaclava (LS2) Rs 2,150 – 2,550 Summer or winter versions Anti-fog cut, flat seams, made for a full face helmet LS2 Summer Balaclava Rs 2,150; LS2 Winter Balaclava Rs 2,550
Premium imported tube (Zan Headgear, Alpinestars) Rs 4,000 – 12,000 All year Imported brand pricing; same job as a Rs 1,200 tube Zan Headgear tube Rs 4,000; Alpinestars tube Rs 12,000, LS2 Helmets Pakistan
Coolmax / "ice silk" cooling fabric Not found at a Pakistani seller Summer Wicks sweat faster than cotton, feels cool against the skin Imported listings only, roughly USD 4–15 abroad; local price unverified

Where these numbers come from: on 8 October 2026 we found the Dominance Cotton Balaclava Summer Edition at Rs 499 (compare-at Rs 699) at Dominance; a 100% cotton Balaclava Face Mask at Rs 600 at FancyBikes; a thermal fleece balaclava at Rs 650 at Roadies Store; an unbranded ninja ski mask at Rs 220 (listed at Rs 550) and a Probikers winter full face mask at Rs 499 (listed at Rs 700) on Daraz; and the LS2 Motley Tube at Rs 1,200, LS2 Summer Balaclava at Rs 2,150, LS2 Winter Balaclava at Rs 2,550, a Zan Headgear tube at Rs 4,000 and an Alpinestars tube at Rs 12,000 at LS2 Helmets Pakistan. We could not find a Coolmax or "ice silk" balaclava at a Pakistani seller on that day, so that row is unverified for local pricing.

What the extra money buys: the Rs 220–500 Daraz masks are thin polyester-spandex with raised seams; they do the hygiene job for a season, then go baggy. Rs 500–600 cotton is the best value for most of Pakistan: softer, absorbs sweat, smells less, dries slowly. Fleece is winter-only. The Rs 1,200–2,550 LS2 pieces add flat seams and an anti-fog cut that sends breath down away from the visor; the Rs 4,000–12,000 imported tubes do the same job at import-brand prices.

For scale, the Vector VT-254 Prime flip-up helmet costs Rs 11,500 at Bike Markaz, so a Rs 500 balaclava that keeps its lining clean for a year is cheap insurance. See our helmet price in Pakistan guide for every helmet we sell, and the brand guides for Vector helmet price in Pakistan and Jiekai helmet price in Pakistan.

Bike Face Mask vs Balaclava vs Neck Tube

Shops and Daraz listings use "bike face mask", "balaclava mask", "ninja mask" and "buff" for overlapping things. Here is what each one is:

Type Covers Pros Cons Price (approx.)
Balaclava (full hood) Head, ears, neck, lower face Stays put under a helmet; sweat layer for the whole liner Hot if thick; "one size" varies Rs 220 – 2,550
Half face / bandana mask Nose, mouth, neck Cool; quick to pull down at a signal Slides down at speed; no crown protection; velcro strap presses under a helmet Rs 150 – 500 (not price-checked)
Neck tube / buff Neck; pulls up over the mouth or over the head Most versatile; neck warmer or headband too Thinner crown; can slip Rs 1,200 – 4,000 branded
Surgical / N95 mask Nose and mouth The only one that filters PM2.5 (N95) Straps fight the helmet; fogs; single-use Rs 20 – 300

Our view: a balaclava is the right daily base layer; in smog season wear a disposable mask under it. A neck tube suits a rider who only wants wind off the neck in an open face helmet. Velcro-strap "ninja" masks are the worst under a full face helmet, because the strap sits exactly where the helmet grips.

Should You Wear a Balaclava Under Your Helmet? (Fit, Hygiene and Fogging)

Close-up of a thin black balaclava under helmet, cheek pads of a full face helmet pressing flat against it, with the visor raised

A balaclava under helmet should disappear once the helmet is on. If you can feel it, something is wrong.

Does a balaclava change helmet fit?

Slightly. A thin lycra or cotton balaclava adds about 1 mm, which a correctly sized helmet absorbs. Fleece adds 2–3 mm, enough to turn a snug full face helmet into a tight one with forehead pressure after 20 minutes. So: if your helmet is already tight, buy thin only. If it is loose (it rotates when you shake your head), a balaclava will not fix it; that is a sizing problem, and our best helmet for Honda CG 150 guide explains how to measure. Never size a new helmet in a thick balaclava.

Seams and the crown

Cheap balaclavas have a thick seam over the top of the head that becomes a ridge under the helmet. Turn it inside out in the shop and feel the crown: you want flat seams or a single panel. That is the main difference between a Rs 220 mask and a Rs 2,150 LS2 one.

Fogging

In winter, breathing into a balaclava that covers your nose pushes warm air straight up into the visor. Cheapest fix first: pull the balaclava below your nose; or buy one with a shaped nose panel that directs breath down (the LS2 anti-fog cut, and some better Daraz ones); or crack the visor one notch at low speed.

Hygiene: the real reason to wear one

Most budget helmets in Pakistan have glued-in padding, so a year of sweat, hair oil and city grime stays inside. That is why a helmet smells by its second summer and why riders get forehead pimples and scalp itch. A balaclava collects all of that and goes in the wash, and a rider who shares a helmet with a brother or a pillion gets their own layer against the padding.

Which Balaclava for Lahore and Karachi Summer?

From April to October, most of Pakistan is hot, and in Karachi it is humid as well. The balaclava for sun and dust you want is:

  • Fabric: thin cotton, cotton-lycra, or a thin polyester-spandex "ice silk" type. Nothing fleece, nothing double-layer.
  • Weight: a T-shirt sleeve is right; a sock is too thick for summer.
  • Colour: black runs hottest but hides sweat and dust; grey or navy is the compromise; white shows the smog after one ride.
  • Cut: eyes-nose-mouth open is cooler in the city with an open face helmet; eyes-only is better on the highway in a full face, where wind and sun hit the lower face for hours.

Karachi: humidity keeps cotton damp and makes polyester smell fast. Buy two, rotate daily, wash often. Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan: dry heat; cotton works well, and wetting it at a petrol pump cools you for the next 15 minutes. Islamabad and Rawalpindi: a thin balaclava works all year except December and January, when you want fleece.

Which Balaclava Is Best for Winter and Fog?

A balaclava for winter has one job: stop the wind from reaching your ears, jaw and neck, which are the parts a helmet does not seal. From mid-November to February, GT Road, Punjab fog and anything north of Islamabad justify it.

  • Fleece (Rs 500–650): the standard winter pick. One with a thin lycra crown and fleece only around the face and neck keeps the helmet from going tight.
  • Two tubes (Rs 1,200+ each): one as a hood, one around the neck, gives warmth without a thick crown, and you peel a layer off at noon.
  • Windproof front panel: good for a Murree or Naran run, overkill for Lahore.
  • Gloves matter more: hands go numb long before the face. Budget gloves first; see our bike accessories price guide.

Northern trips (Naran, Skardu, Hunza): mornings can be at or below freezing in October and May, and the wind chill at 60 km/h is worse. Pack the fleece balaclava even if the valley looks warm, and a thin one for the afternoon.

Sizing and Fit: Does "One Size" Fit Everyone?

Nearly every balaclava in Pakistan is sold as "one size fits all". In practice:

  • Head circumference 54–60 cm (most adults) fits the standard stretch balaclava. Measure just above the eyebrows and ears, as for a helmet.
  • Above 60 cm, cheap lycra pulls at the eye opening and rides up the neck; a cotton-lycra blend stretches more, or look for a branded XL.
  • Below 54 cm (teenagers, many women riders and pillions), a cheap one sags at the chin; a neck tube folded to size is the easier fix.
  • Beards and glasses: over a full beard, choose an open-face cut worn under the chin. With glasses, the eye opening must sit on the cheekbones, not the eyelids. Try it on with both.
  • Hijab: a thin balaclava works under a helmet as a hijab-friendly layer and keeps the scarf out of the straps; many women riders use a neck tube for the same reason.

Buying online, pick a seller with easy returns and look for a measured stretch in the listing (some give "fits 52–62 cm").

How to Wash a Balaclava

A balaclava only does its job if it is clean. A dirty one is just a sweat sponge against your face.

  • How often: every 2–3 rides in summer, weekly in winter, daily in smog or on dusty roads.
  • How: hand wash or a gentle cycle in cold or lukewarm water. Rinse well; leftover detergent irritates the forehead.
  • Drying: shade for lycra and polyester (sun stiffens the elastic), sun for cotton. Never a tumble dryer or a heater.
  • No fabric softener on wicking polyester: it coats the fibres.
  • Stubborn smell: soak 30 minutes in water with a cup of white vinegar, then wash. If that fails, it is Rs 500 for a new one.
  • Keep two. One on the head, one drying.

Does a Balaclava Count as a Smog Mask in Punjab?

In October 2025 the Punjab government made face masks compulsory for motorcyclists as a smog precaution, announced by Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and covering Lahore and other major cities (PakWheels, 20 October 2025). The same report did not state a fine, and we could not verify how the rule was enforced at traffic stops or whether it is being repeated for the 2026 season, so check with Punjab Traffic Police for the current position.

What this means for a balaclava:

  • A balaclava over the nose and mouth is a face covering and will usually satisfy an officer looking for "a mask". It is not a filter mask: cotton and lycra stop grit and road dust, not the PM2.5 particles that do the health damage.
  • The practical smog setup is a surgical or KN95 mask under the balaclava, which holds it in place and keeps the straps off the helmet. Filter-pocket balaclavas exist on imported listings; we did not find one at a Pakistani seller on 8 October 2026.
  • Smog season runs from late October to February, peaking November to January (Arab News). Buy before November; stock runs short once the smog headlines start. Karachi's still winter days call for the same layering.

Where to Buy a Balaclava in Pakistan

  • Daraz: widest choice, lowest prices (Rs 220–700), quality varies by seller. Read the material line, check reviews for "thin" or "seam", and use cash on delivery.
  • Local gear stores (Dominance, FancyBikes, Roadies Store) sell one or two models at Rs 500–650 and will answer a question about the material.
  • Official importers such as LS2 Helmets Pakistan: branded balaclavas and tubes at Rs 1,200–2,550, imported brands up to Rs 12,000.
  • Helmet shops and bazaars usually have a basket of unbranded balaclavas at Rs 200–400. Hold one up to the light: if you can see through the crown, it will last a season.

How We Researched This Guide

  • Prices: checked on 8 October 2026 at Dominance, FancyBikes, Roadies Store, Daraz Pakistan and LS2 Helmets Pakistan (linked above). RapidRides and Faizan Motorsports blocked our check that day; MotorcycleShop.pk and HelmetsPK listed no balaclavas. Half face mask and disposable mask prices are general market figures, not price-checked.
  • History: Wikipedia. Smog and the mask mandate: PakWheels (20 October 2025) and Arab News (November 2025).
  • Fit, fogging and washing: standard riding-gear practice and manufacturer care advice. We did not lab-test any fabric.

Prices are approximate and can change. Traffic rules can be revised at any time.

This guide is general information, not medical advice. A cloth balaclava does not filter fine particulate pollution; if you have a respiratory condition, ask a doctor about a proper filter mask for smog season.

FAQs: Balaclava Price in Pakistan

What is the balaclava price in Pakistan?

A balaclava in Pakistan costs about Rs 220 to Rs 500 for a thin lycra or polyester mask on Daraz, Rs 500 to Rs 600 for a cotton balaclava from a local gear store, Rs 500 to Rs 650 for a fleece winter balaclava, and Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,550 for a branded LS2 tube or balaclava. Prices were checked on 8 October 2026 and can change.

What is a balaclava used for on a bike?

A motorcycle balaclava is a thin hood worn under the helmet. It absorbs sweat so the helmet lining stays clean, keeps dust and smog off the face, protects the cheeks and neck from the sun in an open face helmet, and keeps the ears and jaw warm in winter.

Does a balaclava make a helmet tight?

A thin cotton or lycra balaclava adds about a millimetre and a correctly sized helmet absorbs it. A fleece balaclava adds 2 to 3 mm and can make a snug helmet feel tight on the forehead. If your helmet is already tight, use a thin balaclava only.

Which balaclava is best for summer in Pakistan?

For summer in Lahore, Karachi or Multan, choose a thin 100% cotton or cotton-lycra balaclava, or a thin polyester "ice silk" type, in the Rs 220 to Rs 600 range. Avoid fleece and double-layer balaclavas above about 20°C.

Is a balaclava enough for smog?

No. A cotton or lycra balaclava stops grit and coarse dust but does not filter the fine PM2.5 particles in smog. For smog season, wear a surgical or KN95 mask under the balaclava, which holds it in place under the helmet.

Is a face mask compulsory for bike riders in Punjab?

In October 2025 the Punjab government announced that face masks were compulsory for motorcyclists as a smog precaution. A balaclava pulled over the nose and mouth is a face covering, but we could not verify how the rule is enforced or whether it applies in 2026, so check with Punjab Traffic Police.

How often should I wash a balaclava?

Every 2 to 3 rides in summer and weekly in winter, in cold or lukewarm water. Dry lycra and polyester in the shade and skip fabric softener. Keep two so one is always dry.

Does Bike Markaz sell balaclavas?

Yes. Bike Markaz sells a black one-hole full face balaclava for Rs 400, with cash on delivery across Pakistan, alongside a neck warmer and arm sleeves at the same price.
