How Does a Flip Up Helmet Work?
A flip up helmet has a chin bar that is a separate piece, held on two side pivots. A release button or tab (usually under the chin) unlocks it, and the bar swings up over the forehead. Close it and it clicks into the latch, and the helmet rides like a full face.
Three rules matter more than the brand:
- Ride with it closed. The chin bar protects your face only when it is latched. Riding with it up puts weight high on your head and leaves your face open.
- Check the latch every time. After closing it, pull the chin bar forward with your hand. It should not move. If it pops open, do not ride on it.
- Lift it only when you stop: at a signal, a petrol pump, a toll plaza or a police checkpost where you are asked to show your face.

- Drop-down sun visor: the Aero Shield Flip Up, Aero Shield X Force, VT-254 Prime and SP-915 have an inner smoke visor for afternoon glare (one was also seen on the MAX 909). At night, keep it up and ride behind a clear outer visor; iridium visors are for daytime only.
- Labels: a printed DOT sticker is the maker's own claim under the US rule FMVSS No. 218, not a lab report. A genuine one sits on the outside back of the shell and reads the brand, the model, DOT, FMVSS No. 218 and CERTIFIED (49 CFR 571.218), and the US regulator warns that loose DOT stickers are sold and counterfeited (NHTSA).

What Size Flip Up Helmet Do I Need?
Wrap a soft tape around your head about 2 cm above the eyebrows and over the widest part at the back, measure twice and take the larger number, then match it to our size guide or the chart in the helmet price in Pakistan guide: M is usually 57-58 cm, L 59-60 cm, XL 61-62 cm. Buy by centimetres, not the letter: on the units photographed for our catalogue the Vector VT-265 and LEO PG 107 label M as 57-58 cm, but the Penguin chain graphic's M roundel reads 55-57 cm.
